We are now taking Applications for the Baker For The Day!

Every year we look for a non-profit organization, school, charity or church group that wants to raise some dough with us!  The 7th annual Baker For a Day event will take place on Sunday, April 1st this year. A non-profit will have the opportunity to run the bakery and take away all sales that day (not just the profit).  We donate all ingredients and our Great Harvest team will donate their time so that a lucky non-profit group can take away every penny!

If you are a member of a non-profit or know about a non-profit that could benefit from a day of selling bread & cookies, send them to the store.  We are now taking applications.  It's simple, anyone can pick up a form.  The Great Harvest team will review all applications and select a portion of the organizations to go on a ballot.  Our customers will vote for the group that they would most like to see receive the dough!  Don't forget, you must apply in person at the bakery by February 18.  More details are listed on the application.

See the results below of last year's Baker For the Day event with Change Agent Network.

Fair Trade Products Available In the Store - a great way to give 2 gifts in one!

You may wonder what Fair Trade has to do with our Community - well, we consider our brothers & sisters around the world part of our community.  Fair Trade is an alternative system of trade which counteracts this system of international free trade, corporate control and global policies by giving  workers a living wage for their work, which can sustain them and also create opportunities for social and economic development.
We have beautiful teatowels from Nepal as well as bread-warmers from Bangladesh that fit into palm-leaf baskets made in India.  Our large round loaves fit perfectly on top of the breadwarmers!

It would be easier & cheaper to get our baskets from China, but we think it's important enough to pay workers a fair wage.  All of our new baskets are certified FAIR TRADE baskets.

We purchase through SERRV, a company committed "To build a strong community.  To embrace a better lifestyle.  To eradicate poverty wherever it resides."

We are the first in Louisiana to become a certified Green Restaurant!

What does that really mean?  Here are some steps that we've taken:
1.  Installing energy efficient lighting and kitchen equipment, significantly reducing energy consumption
2.  Implementing a full-scale recycling program
3.  Using non-toxic cleaning chemicals and dish soaps
4.  Outfitting sinks with low-flow faucets (75% more efficient than conventional options)
AND LOTS MORE....
Check out all the details on how we have worked to reach this certification.
INCENTIVES FOR OUR CUSTOMERS
             1. Buy our  Great Harvest tote.  Every time you  use it in the store, you get a FREE Lagniappe Loaf point.  That's a 50 cent value!  (The bag only costs $1 so you've paid for it in 2 visits.) (Re-using your tote, reduces plastic/paper waste.)
             2.  We give out free 5 gallon buckets and our triple-paper wheat sacks (great as a weed barrier & heavy duty for crawfish boils!)  Come by anytime to pick them up.  (Recycle!)

We had a great time raising dough with Change Agent Network.

With all the bread and sweets sales along with raffle tickets sales and generous individual donations, Change Agent Network raised $7,100.  Thanks to all the volunteers and customers who came out to make the day such a success!

A great St. Patrick's Day celebration.  This is the beginning of an annual event! Dancers from Ryan School of Irish Dance
